Earlier, President Xi Jinping wrote an important letter in reply to Hong Kong business leaders who are descendants of pioneering Ningbo-born entrepreneurs in the city, affirming the contribution of Hong Kong entrepreneurs to the development of the Motherland. In order to deeply understand the spirit of President Xi’s important reply and study the spirit of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Chamber co-organized a seminar.
At the seminar, Zheng Yanxiong, Director of LOCPG, reported the guiding opinions of Xia Baolong, Head of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, on implementing the spirit of President Xi’s important reply. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary, was invited to attend and give a speech, while Jonathan Choi, the Chamber’s Chairman, served as the host and delivered an address.
Xia pointed out that President Xi’s reply reflects the great importance attached to the development of Hong Kong and Macao. The Hong Kong business community should learn from the spirit within the reply and translate it into practical actions to make new contributions to China-style modernization. Zheng stressed that President Xi’s reply was affectionate and of great significance. Hong Kong’s top priority is to implement the spirit of the 3rd Plenary Session and play a good role as a stakeholder, pioneer, contributor and innovator in the overall development of the Motherland.
Chan said that President Xi’s reply contains ardent expectations for the business community in Hong Kong. Under “One Country, Two Systems”, Hong Kong will work hard and be able to continue playing its role as a unique two-way platform in different aspects in the future. Choi believes that President Xi’s reply is an important “boost” for Hong Kong’s business community to contribute to the Motherland, therefore, the community should keep leveraging its strengths to enhance Hong Kong’s prosperity and assist in the development of the Motherland.
Anna Pao and William Lee, entrepreneurs who wrote to President Xi; leaders of different Chambers of Commerce; and representatives of Ning Po Residents Association, Ningpo & Hong Kong Fraternity Association and International Ningpo Merhcants Association, also made sharing. The seminar was attended by Yin Zonghua, Deputy Director of LOCPG; Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry; Peter Lam, Chairman of HKTDC, as well as business leaders, representatives and communities.
