We Care • We Share Campaign Held a Party for Centenarians

Shortly before its 110th birthday, the We Care • We Share Campaign (the Campaign) of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) organized a fun-filled party with the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and Ho Yam Care and Attention Home for the Elderly (Sponsored Sik Sik Yuen). CGCC members visited the home to lunch, chat and enjoy performances with nearly 300 residents there, expressing their care for the elderly

Show Caring Heart

The visit was joined by Chairman Jonathan Choi, Vice-chairman Cheung Sing-hung, Committee Members and Liaison Committee members of CGCC. They gave presents to the elders and lunched with them. In particular, 7 centenarians were given souvenirs and red pockets. As a gesture of thanks, the elders presented hand-made paper flowers to CGCC and sang a birthday song to wish CGCC success. It was a day of warmth and amicability.

Do What We can for the Elderly

Choi said in his remarks that while promoting the development of commerce and industry, CGCC does not lose sight of public welfare. The elderly have made significant contribution to social progress and deserve the community’s respect. As a way for CGCC to express love, the party also echoed the SAR Government’s idea of providing the elderly with a sense of security, a sense of belonging and a feeling of health and worthiness.

Also participating in the party were: Standing Committee Member Michael Chan, Committee Members Chu Wing-keung and Cherry Leung, Honorary Committee Member Kam Ning and Liaison Committee members of CGCC; District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Cecilla Li and Assistant DSWO Bonnie Leung of SWD-Wong Tai Sin and Sai Kung District; Directors Ma Chak-wa and Yu Kwan-hing of Sik Sik Yuen. Representatives from Ho Chui District Community Centre for Senior Citizens (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen), Helping Hand Chuk Yuen (North) Jockey Club Housing for the Elderly and Caring Enterprises under the Campaign were present in the event as well.

Bring Warmth to All Corners of Society

As an ongoing project the Campaign has launched various charitable initiatives since its inception in June 2009, which included raising over $10 million for the Community Chest and giving out $2.7 million worth of food coupons, moon cakes and Lunar New Year cakes to families and individuals in need before festivals. Parent-and-child activities and a tour to Noah’s Ark for students were also organized to cultivate the spirit of care among youths. Furthermore, the Emergency Relief Fund under the Campaign provides immediate financial assistance for families of victims in major incidents to meet their pressing needs.
