CGCC “We Care, We Share Campaign” Promotes Caring Community

The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce’s (CGCC) “We Care, We Share Campaign” was kicked off by a food coupon distribution scheme, which was launched together with Yoshinoya Fast Food (HK) Ltd. The Social Welfare Department will help distributing a total of 70,000 coupons worth over 2 million dollars to families in need. The first round of 10,000 food coupons will be distributed before July 1. CGCC also donated $100,000 for the “Emergency Relief Fund” of the Social Welfare Department in providing instant economic assistance to families suffering from major incidents.

At the press conference held on 22nd June, CGCC announced that further activities would be organized besides the food coupons and the “Emergency Relief Fund”. It aims at consolidating and expressing the care of business sectors for the grassroots and the disadvantaged, as well as promoting social harmony.

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung attended the press conference. He commended CGCC for its commitment to the community and its care for the disadvantaged. The food coupon distribution scheme also put the Government’s advocacy of a tri-partite collaboration among the business sector, the Government and the community into action.

Chairman Jonathan Choi Koon-shum said CGCC not only concerns about Hong Kong’s economic development, but also cares for the society and people’s livelihood. CGCC realized that the grassroots and the disadvantaged will need more assistance under the impact of the global financial tsunami. With the generous support from various enterprises, the “We Care, We Share Campaign” provides a platform for business sector to contribute to the building of a harmonious community.

To encourage the participation of the business sector, a “We Care · We Share” logo will be awarded to participating companies in recognition of their contributions.

Chairman Choi thanked Taining Group Co Ltd for being the first participating enterprise for donating a total sum of $300,000. $300,000 each was also received from Sun Wah Group, Glorious Sun Holdings Ltd and Goldlion Holdings Ltd in sponsorship for the food coupons. The Paramount Catering Group and the Hsin Kuang Restaurant (Holdings) Ltd will also sponsor another 20,000 food coupons worth $600,000 in due course.
